IT'S the season of peace once again as Christmas rushes in and as part of its yearly activities, the Matina Town Square celebrated the Mindanao Week of Peace from November 24 till 30 with different cultural presentations just before the clock chimes for the party crowd. And there I witnessed once more, after a long time, the Mebuyan Peace Project. First formed in 2001, the Mebuyan Peace Project is composed of women based in Mindanao who are into arts and development work. A good number of them are in various theatre projects, and yes, a good voice. Although their website says they're 18 members, the group, as most group composed of individuals from various professions and concerns, expand, and reduce in numbers in their performances.
Last week there were eight women holding various instruments and singing different songs, and some dancers as well. The power of the eight voices, however, was already enough to make you sit through their whole performance. Their message, peace. And as can be expected from women hankering for peace, the power they exude is more than just in their voice. The Mebuyan Peace Project has once more sang its message and sang it very clearly. |
